All Day Camel Trek

All Day Camel Trek

Explore Wadi Rum Protected Area at a slower pace. Soak up the atmosphere of the desert from the back of your camel as you experience a taste of Bedouin life. Get to know your camel and see if you can learn it's name before the day ends.

Yet it was a good song, with a rhythmical beat which the camels loved, so that they put down their heads, stretched their necks out far and with lengthened pace shuffled forward musingly...

~ T.E Lawrence, “Seven Pillars of Wisdom”

All Day Camel Trek

This camel trek usually starts in the village and finishes at Wadi Rum Sky Bedouin Camp in the afternoon. You can also do the tour in reverse finishing in the village in the afternoon.

It is possible to do this tour as a day tour without an overnight stay. In this situation the route does change.

Arrival: After meeting us in Rum Village we will introduce you to your Bedouin guide and your camels who you will ride for the day.

You will head out into the desert and notice the sounds and silence of the desert as you experience the desert from the top of your camel.

Along the way you visit some sites, which are also a chance to get down and stretch your legs.

  • Lawrence Spring - Our first stop takes you to Abu Ainah a natural spring now named after Lawrence of Arabia. The spring water is still used for grazing animals. Look out for camels who arrive to help themselves (they are not wild they have owners). You can give your legs a work out and walk for about 20 minutes up the side of the mountain. Here you can see the spring’s source and enjoy excellent views across the valley. This spring is one of 4 springs in a row along the mountains here which used to be the only source of spring water for miles around. There are also inscriptions here on a massive 'cheese shaped' rock at the foot of the mountain.

  • Little Red Sand Dune - At this sand dune of red sand piled up against the mountain you can find your inner child again. By all means climb for the view. But don't forget to run, and jump on the way down.

  • Lunch - Enjoy a Bedouin picnic with your guide. The exact position on the tour of lunch can change according to the time of year.

  • Khazali Canyon - Khazali is a dramatic mountain made up of a steep gnarly and crevassed red sandstone base topped with smoother rounded yellow sandstone. At Khazali you can visit and walk inside a dramatic canyon. Inscriptions can been seen on the canyon walls and you can see how water erosion has shaped the mountain. At the natural end of the canyon you may find a small pool with some hidden water. This is another reminder of the past and how local Bedouin used to rely on hidden rain water catchments like this one. This mountain has also played an important role providing shady spots even in the heat of summer when the sun is at its highest point in the sky. Look out for the old false fig tree entwined with a sandstone rock at the entrance to the canyon.

The camel ride finishes at Wadi Rum Sky camp in the afternoon. You have time for a well-earned rest and then if you want, you can take a short walk to enjoy sunset before dinner is served.

Enjoy your evening star gazing and chatting around the fire.

In the morning we return to the village by Jeep after breakfast.
