Jebel Haash Hike

Jebel Haash is Um Ad Dami's not as famous cousin. The mountain isn't quite as high as Um Ad Dami either. But for people who have completed both hikes Jebel Haash is often said to be the most memorable. Why? Because of the views and silence. As the less well known mountain it's also the less visited mountain. This hike is a great option for people visiting Wadi Rum for several days, or as return visitors wanting something different, or for people who like to escape off the beaten track.

“across the curved slopes of pink sandstone and tamarisk-green valleys to Rumm. Air and light were so wonderful that we wandered without thinking in the least of to-morrow”.

T.E Lawrence, “The Seven Pillars of Wisdom”

Program

Arrival: This tour can be added to the all day Jeep tour to combine into a two day two night program. It's a good option for return visitors to Wadi Rum. Or if you want to avoid a Jeep tour entirely this tour is a great option.

In general arrival can be at 9-10am but we may recommend earlier in winter due to the short days.

We meet at Rum Rest House and then we will show you the way to my (Sulieman's house).

If you take this tour on day two or three of your tour you start from the camp after breakfast.

Initially you drive to the far South of Wadi Rum Protected Area. Along the way you can appreciate how the landscape changes and fluctuates with different colours of sand and mountains.

Once you arrive at Jebel Haash your guide will show you the best and safest route to top. The hike takes about 2-3 hours and you don't have to be super-fit or have any training to complete the hike.

On the way up and from the top of Jebel Haash you can enjoy the dramatic views across the desert. Look out for what looks like a winding canyon in the sandy valley. This fills with water from the surrounding mountains when it rains and becomes a temporary river.

Once you complete the hike your guide will make you a Bedouin lunch and Bedouin tea.

The afternoon can be spent slowly making your way back to the camp. Along the way you explore the South of Wadi Rum Protected Area which is not included in the Jeep tours. There aren't specific sites we visit, but you are surrounded by the desert which is full of features to appreciate.

See how many shade of sand or different kinds of rock you can spot, look for interesting rock formations and wriggle your toes in the sand.

The tour finishes in Rum Village around 4pm or to enjoy a night at Wadi Rum Sky Bedouin camp. Not forgetting the chance to enjoy a memorable sunset and a delicious Bedouin dinner.
