Um Ad Dami Hike

Do you like adventure, hiking, and exploring places less well known to the average traveller? Then a trip to hike up Um Ad Dami, the highest mountain in Jordan, could suit you. You don't have to be perfectly in shape. The 2-3 hour hike can be completed by most people. On this tour you can enjoy the remotest corners of Wadi Rum Protected Area and marvelous views across the desert into Saudi Arabia.

“The essence of the desert was the lonely moving individual, the son of the road, apart from the world as in a grave”.

~ T.E Lawrence, The Seven Pillars of Wisdom

A Hike for Everyone, Views Galore

Program

Arrival: This tour can be added to the all day Jeep tour to combine into a two day two night program. It's also a good option for return visitors to Wadi Rum. Or if you want to avoid a Jeep tour this tour is a great option.

In general arrival can be at 9-10am but we may recommend earlier in winter due to the short days.

We meet at Rum Rest House and then we will show you the way to my (Sulieman's house).

This tour also makes a good choice for a second or third day, in this case the tour starts from the camp after breakfast.

Initially you drive to the far South of Wadi Rum Protected Area. This drive takes you to an area where the sandstone mountains disappear and hard granite mountains take their place. You can see different colours and types of rock shooting through the mountain sides like veins or flashes of lightning.

Once you arrive at Um Ad Dami your guide will show you the best and safest route to the top. The path is steep and littered with loose rocks but the distance is not far. This makes this hike one of the most accessible in Wadi Rum. You do not have to be in tip-top condition or have any training to complete the hike.

From the top of Um Ad Dami you can enjoy the views across the desert and into Saudi Arabia. Seeing the desert from up high really begins to put into perspective the scale.

Once you complete the hike your guide will make you a Bedouin lunch and Bedouin tea.

The afternoon can be spent slowly making your way back to the camp. Along the way you explore the South of Wadi Rum Protected Area which is not included in the Jeep tours. There aren't specific sites we visit, but you are surrounded by the desert which is full of features to appreciate.

See how many shade of sand or different kinds of rock you can spot, look for interesting rock formations and wriggle your toes in the sand.

The tour finishes in Rum Village around 4pm or back at Wadi Rum Sky Bedouin camp and a chance to enjoy a memorable sunset and a delicious Bedouin dinner.
